Long before the days of chargable electricity keys. When Blues was blues, electric was cheap and the captain was Beefheart.

Love Beefheart, but personally, I prefer some of his later bands to the Magic Band. Still, way ahead of it's time. There used to ba a great club here in Knoxville, Tennessee called Ella Gurus, named for the Beefheart song. Saw some great acts there, including Buddy Guy, John Lee Hooker, Hot Tuna, and Doc Watson!

No. Wasn't a Zappa fan. Saw him once only at the posh London Festival Hall, a few weeks before I saw the Captain in '68. Felt Zappa was putting on a self-regarding act for the art set. Beefheart was deep underground with the freaks. There was a scary vibe about The Magic Band - the same feeling you got with the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre movie - that everybody involved were pushing their art into dangerously unknown territory. Very, very few people had that sort of balls, even then.

Can you imagine what was going thru the minds of some of the crowd members?? LOL

Were you at the Zappa show where the guy threw him offstage in '71?

There is no cure that I know of. Once Beefheart gets into you, just accept it. You won't forget it. You'll never regret it.

only recently 'found' CB. Can now play nothing else. Is there a cure?

When this song was recorded in studio, the membrane of the Telefunken microphone has crashed, because of his vocal power !

Son of a gun, it seems to be all one shot.

I love how the second camera comes in right after the introduction, then does a walking pan behind the amplifiers to show the crowd.
