He did his own dude, that is the great thing. Plus, his death has given us a great movie that makes you stop for a second and realize that many things we think are important are not. Cheers.

Hi there...I get what you are saying but then why did he bring a rifle if it was just about the basics? Maybe it wasn't stupidity but cockiness or overconfidence in his abilities to handle the situation. I did some solo hiking and camping trips in the Canadian Rockies so I can kind of get what he was looking for. Either way its an intersting story.

You know, it's not all about living as long as possible. It's about living life to the fullest, it's a feeling that I can't describe. But something as simple as taking a map wouldn't have been the same. He wanted to bring it back to the basics, and just live it. A map is no part of such. It is sad how he died but it's not an act of stupidity. The Wild is dangerous, but that's what he looked for.
