BUT THE CHURCH IS MORE THAN 100 YEARS OLD, A GATHERING PLACE IN THIS TOWN. [Notes:SUPER: Rev. Donnie Gambrell / New Hope Church]SOT: My son called me, we live in the parsonage right close to here, and he said, dad you better start praying cause your church is on fire.FIGHTING THIS FIRE WAS HARD ... THE CLOSEST FIRE HYDRANTS NEARLY THREE-QUARTERS OF A MILE AWAY. FIREFIGHTERS HAD TO FILL WATER TANKERS ... BUT SOME WENT TO A NEARBY CHURCH WITH A SIMILAR NAME. [Notes:SUPER: Fire Chief Billy Gibson / Anderson County FD]SOT: I would say it took us about 15-20 minutes, and of course when you have a fire of this magnitude it seems like an eternity trying to get that set up.
